The name "combat bag" is probably due to the early years of the Bundeswehr. The newly established armed forces received their original equipment from the USA, which also included personal carrying equipment. The corresponding item of equipment was called "Combat Field Pack", which can roughly be translated as "Combat Field Bag".

The small combat bag has loops on the back with which it can be attached to the belt. Loops or metal rings on the outside allow other items of equipment, such as canteens, to be attached.

The combat bag is closed with generously dimensioned flaps that are closed with a buckle strap. Combat bags are usually carried in the middle at the back of the belt.
